Beyond the Crack Generation: Surviving A Trauma Organized Culture
Trauma In Our Students
Why Education Needs to be Trauma Sensitive
Current education curriculums do not focus on teaching students that have been exposed to trauma. Most programs, even those that have been updated, focus on behavior changes through stereotypical versions of cultural stereotypes or only offer education curriculums that target students with traditional special needs. Trauma exposed students that exhibit the equivalent of PTSD behaviors are excluded from these pedagogical practices and are failing our students.
Our program is focused on translating the theory of complex trauma disorder in a way that provides actionable results on behavior. We achieve this by connecting cultural experiences to social emotional states and the resulting values and behaviors within gang and drug impacted communities.
